Rechargeable Bicycle by Sanyo Electric Co.
Sanyo unveiled its new electric hybrid bicycle based on its envelope technology. The company named the new bike “ENELOOPE Bike”. The previous models of this type of electric hybrid bicycles were sold under “ENACLE” brand name. The motor which is in control of driving the front wheel is a brushless motor with 250W power output which is similar to the company’s previous models but with an enhanced maximum output. The voltage and capacity of secondary Li-ion battery on this bike is also increased by 1.5 times to 25.9V and 6.0Ah respectively in comparison to its previous model. This will result to increased charging time of 2 to 3.5 hours. The ENELOOPE Bike is equipped with what company calls it the “loop charge” function, which uses the assist motor to act as a generator during braking and downhill riding. This new bike comes three modes which are Auto mode, Power Up mode and Standard mode. In an Auto mode, the assisting force is adjusted in accordance with running conditions resulting in power generation that is automatically starts when going downhill, without using the brakes. In the Power Up mode the bike provides a continuous assistant force to its rider equivalent of two human powers. It cursing distance is 57 Km without regenerative charging. But at the standard mode it is increased to 75 Km where regenerative charging occurs during braking. In its Auto mode the traveling distance reaches up to 100km. Sanyo developed this new bike in accordance to the revised Road Traffic Law Enforcement Regulations enforced Dec 1, 2008 which increased the maximum drive assist ratio (the ratio of motor drive force to human power) from one to two in Japan. The 26-inch bicycle market price will be 136,290 Yen. The electric hybrid bicycle market is growing in Japan with number of 300,000 units in 2008. My only hope is if they can come up with a more stylish design.
