“FeliCa Plug” and “FeliCa Lite” by Sony
Sony just unveiled the two new additions to its FeliCa product line-ups, one is the “FeliCa Plug” (RC-S801) (RC-S802) and the other is “FeliCa Lite” IC card chip (RC-S965). The “FeliCa Plug” is a tiny wireless interface module that can be stored in electronic devices and as for the FeliCa Lite; it can be embedded into a card as well as various medium such as stickers and packaging seals. Development of FeliCa Plug comes with a trade-off of not having memory part and CPU in providing a smaller form factor and low cost. The “FeliCa Plug” can be placed in health measurement devices such as step counter or it can be placed in electronic toys. By taking advantage of Felica’s transmission functional capability user is able to connect devices to PC and internet. As for “FeliCa Lite” the Cost of it has been reduced with a smaller size and power saving feature all through simplifying its security functions which will depend on its usage and by optimizing its file system. The “FeliCa Plug” is planed to be in the market by spring of 2009 and the “FeliCa Lite” IC card chip is planed to be manufactured in summer of 2009.
