Mobile operated Security Robot
The message is clear, watch out bad guys the robotic cops are coming soon to protect our good citizens. Well, it doesn’t seem like much of a cop right now but this is just a beginning in developing future robotic police task force. The T-34 security robot which was jointly developed by a Japanese robotic company by the name of Tmsuk Co. Ltd out of Kitakyushu Japan and Alacom a security firm. The T-34 is just a prototype equipped with camera, infrared presence sensor, LED light, a microphone and a speaker. Finally to protect you from the bad guys it features two net launchers developed by Nippon Koki. The T-34 does not function autonomously; it is controlled through a mobile phone to send its instructions. T-34 is motor driven with a speed of 10km/h and weighs only 12 kg. For this prototype FOMA mobile service from NTT DoCoMo was chosen due to its capability of simultaneously viewing video phone and controlling the robot through button operation, a service which is not offered by other mobile services in Japan. In order for T-34 to become a commercial product Tmsuk need to make several improvements such as its operating time by adding a secondary Li-ion battery and development of charging station for the robot. The body of the robot needs to be reinforced by special resin or steel plates to replace its current Styrofoam structure. In addition to these the speed and turning radius of T-34 needs to be modified to fit the inside a building security guard. Its current speed at 10km/h is to fast for this purpose plus the prototype turning radius is too large. Tmsuk is planning to release the commercial version of T-34 in a year but it won’t be cheap folks, the price tag for these next generation security guards expected to be at around 500,000 Yen. The whole idea in developing such robot was to use them as a backup in case of emergency where there is a risk of injuries. Well, I am sure we will see more of this type of security robot in a near future some in disguise and so on.
