“Fabre Photo EX” a portable stereoscopic microscope by Nikon

The “Fabre Photo EX” is an upgrade to Nikon “Fabre Photo” which is a microscope that was released in June 2006 is a portable stereoscopic microscope that can be fitted with Nikon’s digital single-lens reflex camera. The product intended use is in field of visual inspection and image recording in regard to inspecting materials and electronic parts. The optical component of this product uses a prism which has been applied with phase difference correction coating to improve image quality according to Nikon. The previous model Fabre Photo could have been fitted only to a compact digital camera where as the new model “Fabre Photo EX” can be fitted on a digital SLR camera. Nikon made some improvements in this new model which includes introduction of die-cast aluminum in improving the rigidity of the base plus inclusion of grip resulting in improvement in operability and toughness allowing “Fabre Photo EX” to be used in sever environmental conditions. With the help of “FSB-U1 Compact Digital Camera Bracket” many of Coolpix series cameras can be connected to the microscope. The observation optical system features a 20 times magnification and actual field of view of 11mm in diameter. The shooting magnification depends on the type of connected camera but it is about 45 times without the intermediate tube, 56-times with one tube and 66-times with two tubes when a Nikon DX format camera (A4-size print) is used. Interpupillary distance is adjustable in the range of 51 to 72mm plus the focus ring is equipped with a torque adjustment mechanism in order to reduce blurring during observation. Both the microscope and the attachment are planed for Feb. 20th release at the price tag of 108,150 Yen and 37,800 Yen respectively.
