Development of fastest variable focus lens by NTT

March 31, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products · 1 Comment

Basically a variable focus lens is a zoom lens in which focal length is variable where elements inside a variable focus lens shift their position, enabling the lens to change its focal length so one lens can have many focal length. The newly developed variable focus lens which incidentally is based on KTN (potassium tantalate niobate, KTa1-xNbxO3) is claimed by NTT-AT (NTT Advance Technology) to be 1000 times faster than the existing PZT (piezoelectric zirconate titanate) base variable focus lens. Development of new method in conversion of Biodiesel by-product

March 30, 2009 · Filed Under Green Tech · 1 Comment

Japanese researchers at AIST (Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) have successfully developed a method in converting the biodiesel by-product during its production. Glycerin is the substance which is produced in a rather large quantity during the production of biobiesel fuel (BDF) which is difficult to get rid of in such a large quantity. As a result of using this new method the produced glycerin can be converted into D-glyceric acid which is a substance in chemical products such as cosmetics, bioplastic, etc. Read more

Development of deep UV LED by AIST

March 26, 2009 · Filed Under Green Tech · 4 Comments

Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) of Japan developed a deep UV LED that uses diamond semiconductor. The reason for selecting diamond is due to the stability of excitons that is generated in the diamonds responsible for emitting light. The excitons are electron-hole pair which behaves very much like a particle. Unlike the general excitons that are vulnerable to heat the diamond generated excitons are stable at around 600 degrees Celsius. Read more

Development of BGA chip varistor with EMI filter function by TDK

March 26, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products · 1 Comment

As the smaller form factor for multi functional mobile electronic devices is becoming a market norm, necessitating their further miniaturization and integration of multitude of electronic components with in them.
Further to this, the use of lower voltage operating IC is gaining speed in order to maintain and increase device operating time while limiting their overall power consumption. As a result of creating such compact environment, today’s mobile electronic devices becoming more susceptible to effect of high voltage static electricity resulting in creation of an electrostatic discharge (ESD) countermeasures in preventing malfunction of such devices.
