Epson’s host controller LSI for SD memory cards
Seiko Epson is at it again by first unveiling its USB host controller for USB memory application and now with the announcement on development of host controller LSI “S1R72E11” that is designed specifically for memory cards suitable for embedded devices. The newly developed device can easily be connected to a universal bus on an existing CPU eliminating any needs for major system upgrades and allowing a fast and simple memory card control thanks to its on board SD memory card control function. With use of company’s free sample firmware the cost as well as time of product development can be reduced. The product supports a wide variety of application in consumer as well as industrial devices due to its high speed capability and wide operating temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. The “S1R72E11” provides compatibility with SDHC cards as one of the most popular type of SD card with capacity of more than 2GB plus it supports SD speed classes 2, 4, and 6 eliminating any concerns with media incompatibility that can be used with it. The shipment of this device has already begun with a sample price of 650 yen per unit.
