World’s smallest 32.678kHz Crystal Oscillator

March 23, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products

Epson Toyocom Corporation leader in crystal devices has unveiled the world’s smallest 32.768-kHz crystal oscillator. The dimension of the SG-3050BC is 2.2 x 1.4 x 1mm with a 70 percent smaller footprint and 75% smaller cubic volume than its predecessor helping electronic manufacturer in further reducing their products’ size while increasing their performance. The 32.768kHz crystal devices are indispensable as clocks, microcontroller sub-clocks and timer functions in a variety of applications such as compact portable consumer products such like cell phones and digital still cameras. They are also essential for machine tools in vehicle system such as navigation system and GPS modules. The SG-3050BC is equipped with an ultra-compact QMEMS crystal chip. The smaller form factor on this device was achieved through combining a compact crystal unit with an oscillation circuit rather than providing them separately.
