World first Interchangeable-lens video recording capable digital camera featuring Full-time Auto focus by Panasonic
Full high definition video recording functionality is certainly emerging as a new value added competitive feature in the market of DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras. On March 25th Panasonic unveiled their new DSLR product. The Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-GH1K features the full-time auto focus functionality a world first for an interchangeable lens digital camera that has a video recording capability. The Lumix DMC-GH1K complies with “Micro Four Thirds System” standard created by Olympus and Panasonic for compact digital camera design and development. The standard provides a mean in designing a compatible interchangeable lenses and compact cameras by different manufacturers adhering to the system. The standard does not provide space for a mirror and a pentaprism allowing design of smaller bodies. This is Pansonic’s second camera that complies with this standard the first was the DMC-G1. Among the multitude of features that comes with DMC-GH1K beside the auto focus functionality for still picture taking as well as video recording thanks to the newly developed lens is the ability of automatically brighten dark areas during shooting in a dark room. Further, in “Omakase iA” mode the user is able to automatically select optimal shooting mode based on the information that has been gathered from the subject both for still picture taking as well as video recording. In the “creative video mode” of DMC-GH1K user is capable of shooting video by prioritizing either the aperture of shutter speed. The DMC-GH1K comes with a 4/3-inch “Live MOS sensor” featuring a 12.1 mega pixel resolution with four channel high speed reading of HD images. The DMC-GH1K comes with all connections for AV output and USB2.0 High Speed as well as HDMI terminal. The DMC-GH1K will hit the market on April 24th 2009 in Japan. The expected retail price tag for DMC-GH1K is 150,000 yen. Panasonic is planning to manufacture 5,000 units of the DMC-GH1K a month.
