Development of high density POL converters by FDK

June 22, 2009 · Filed Under Green Tech, Trendy Products

FDK Corporation a leading global electronic component and battery manufacturer has introduced three new non-isolated, point-of-load (POL), dc-dc converters expanding its DK Series. These very small, low profile surface mount devices deliver are capable of delivering up to 6 Amp of output current at power density of up to 860 watts/cubic inch, with efficiencies of up to 93%. Operating form a 5.6Vdc to 14.0Vdc input bus along with a tightly regulated programmable output voltage of 0.8Vdc to 6.6Vdc, the new converters incorporate an output voltage tracking function. The newly developed converters are suitable for wide rage of fields such as telecommunication data communications, computing, industrial, and consumer applications where board space, cost, profile, efficiency, and reliable operation in elevated temperature environments are critical. The DK Series converters are designed in providing complete power conversion solutions without any needs for external input and output capacitors. The FPDK12SR8003PSS (3A), FPDK12SR8004PSS (4A) converters are capable of delivering the full rated output current with no derating in ambient temperatures of up to 85 degrees Celsius. The FPDK12SR8006PSS (6A) converter delivers full rated output current with no derating up to 80 degrees Celsius. All the three new converters come in a 16.7 x 10.2mm SMD package. The new converters offer a significant space savings over discrete on-board solutions with a footprint of less then 2 square centimeters. The new DK Series converters feature programmable output voltage, remote ON/OFF, over-current and over-temperature protection, and start up into a pre-biased output. The FPDK12SR8003PSS is priced at $5.00 for quantities of 1,000 pieces where the FPDK12SR8004PSS at $5.50 and the FPDK12SR8006PSS is priced at $6.10. All samples are available now.
