Development of Mobile Order Management Terminal by Fujitsu
Fujitsu and Fujitsu Frontech today made an announcement on release of Web application enabled mobile terminal deigned for enhancing the worked productivity for use in convenient stores and other retail locations. The idea behind developing such a web-enabled mobile terminal for retailers was for allowing the inputted data to be quickly processed over the internet instead of loading them onto a corporate backend system which takes far more time to process resulting in enhanced work productivity. Patio700 runs on Microsoft Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 and it is equipped with dedicated security key option allowing automatically locking and suspending operation s if the user moves away from it and subsequently unlock when the user returns resulting in prevention of data leaks. The Patio700 is designed with ruggedness in mind for handing harsh conditions such as withstanding impact of being dropped on concrete from a height of 1.2m as well as being in compliance to IP54 dust and drip proof plus the rear surface of the terminal can withstand a static discharge of 15kV. The Patio700 comes with a LED backlight LCD screen with a battery life of approximately six hours. The new system will help with order management of perishable goods and other type of products with a short shelf time preventing an unnecessary waste in merchandising and at the same time boost profitability. There is no suggested retail price on Patio700 as of yet but the shipment will resume on late November of this year. I hope the new system will help the merchants with overall ordering system for perishable as well as non-perishable items where it is not out of ordinary in Japan to see a shelves empty for days or sometimes few weeks with on some specific items due to failed ordering, or slow ordering system given the vast and multitude of available technology from the mobile ordering terminals to ID tags and so on. They have a long way to go to reach the on demand ordering system. Hope this is a step in a right direction.
