October 31, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products · Comment

This new technology would probably put an end to movie piracy, well may be for a while at least. The newly developed technology specifically targets the individuals who record movies at the movie theater by their camcorders. National Institute of Informatics (NII) Associate Professor Echizen and Sharp Cooperation developed a technology for preventing pirates from recording films at movie theaters. This technology focuses on the differences of sensory perceptions between humans and devises through use of near-infrared signal as noise signals which is not harmful to human as well as being invisible to human eyes capable of adding noise to shooting video through CCD/CMOS device. Suzuki Exhibits its New Fuel-Cell Powered Scooter and Electric Wheelchair

October 30, 2009 · Filed Under Green Tech, Trendy Products · Comment

Suzuki put on display series of energy efficient vehicles during the 41st Tokyo Motor Show. Couple of interesting products that grabbed my attention was the Fuel-cell Powered Scooter and Electric Wheelchair. The newly developed scooter, the Burgman Fuel-cell Scooter is based on Crosscage concept motorcycle where the fuel cell generates electricity through reaction between oxygen and hydrogen. The Burgman scooter comes with a structurally simple, compact and light design and it is air cooled. The new scooter is equipped with a 70MPa hydrogen tank, the highest pressure tank which has been used thus far on a bike allowing a usable riding range. The tank is placed within a robust frame for safety reason. The fuel cell itself was developed by British company Intelligent Energy which is a polymer-electrolyte type fuel-cell. The scooter uses a lithium-ion as its secondary battery. Read more

Super tiny Monolithic Ceramic Capacitor by Murata

Miniaturization of mobile devices and introduction of new advanced functionality on such devices making the available surface board real-estate on them rather scarce, forcing the component manufacturer to come up with a ever smaller form factors component design. One such device is capacitor for mobile devices which have been increasing faced with reduction on their mounting space requirements. But manufacturer of capacitance need to reduce the size of capacitance while maintaining their large capacitance capability. Read more

ROHM unveils Industry’s First Compact High-Speed Optical Communication Module

October 29, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products · 1 Comment

Improved display resolution and camera picture quality as well as capability of video playback on today’s mobile phones making inter-substrate transmission rate among the mobile phone manufacturer an increasingly important characteristic. But the current thin coaxial lines or flexible cables made of copper wiring can handle only about 500Mbps due to various effects such as attenuation and fluctuation from bending. In addition to this shortcoming the copper wiring requires between 40 to 50 wires making it the resulting cable difficult to bend which is an important issue during the assembly. Finally, the connector and cable footprints are large resulting in noise generation or its susceptibility to noise. In order to overcome this, Rohm has developed the industry’s first ultra compact high speed inter-substrate optical communication module capable of transmission rate of 2.5Gbps within portable devices such as mobile phones. Development of Digital Brightness Sensor IC for Mobile phones by ROHM

October 27, 2009 · Filed Under Green Tech, Trendy Products · 3 Comments

With an increasing demand for higher functionality on mobile phones power saving on these little gadget is becoming a mundane task. One way to the over all power usage of the mobile phone is through minimizing it LCD backlight power usage. In order to achieve such power saving objectives manufacturers of mobile phones implement some sort of brightness control usually via a microcontroller and LED driver along with an ambient light sensor requiring a relatively fast bus speed. As result of this, in response to faster internal transmission speeds in mobile phones to keep up with an increasing pace in addition of new functionality on these devices, ROHM made an announcement on development of industry’s first digital ambient light sensor IC compatible with I2C bus Hs (High-speed) mode.
