Production of New High-temperature TFT color panel for Electronic Viewfinders by Epson
Seiko Epson made an announcement on production of Ultra-Compact, High-Resolution HTPS TFT color liquid crystal panel for Electronic viewfinders. The new high temperature polysilicon (HTPS) TFT color panel measures only 1.2cmm diagonally and it offers SVGA (800xRGBx600) resolution for a total of 1.44 mega pixels. The new panels to be used for electronic viewfinders form mid-to high-end Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras. The new development is to fulfill the consumers’ need for smaller and thinner DSLR cameras with video and other features.
The new panel offers a high resolution and fidelity required to replace optical viewfinders and to focus the image in addition to re-creating a smooth gradations and a natural softness by incorporating an analog driver.

Furthermore, the new panel allows the camera manufacturers to eliminate the mirrors and pentaprisms which is needed for optical viewfinders resulting in a much compact and thinner camera bodies. Finally, the use of color filter in this new panel prevents the color breakup which usually occurs when shooting fast-moving subjects and while panning. This panel constitutes the first Epson’s new “ULTIMICRON” series of compact, high-resolution HTPS panels capable of displaying full color on a single screen for electronic viewfinders and other compact displays.
