Release of Bicycle Simulator for Traffic Safety Education by HONDA
Overwhelming number of bicycle riders in Japan especially in major metropolitan cities for purpose of commuting to work place or going to shopping or others has brought an increasing number of fatalities in accidents involving bicycles in a country where the number of fatalities from traffic accidents has actually declined. One of the major causes of this is violation of traffic rules which is simply ignored by the individuals due to the reason that riding a bicycle does not require a license. The bicycle riders in 10 to 19 as well as above 50 years of age have the highest chance in getting involved in an accident. In order to tackle this issue, Honda Motor has developed a Bicycle Simulator with the purpose of traffic safety education, where by safely experiencing the possible risks users will improve their ability to predict risks and increase safety awareness. Furthermore, the rider evaluation session this is done in conjunction to the riding simulation will help the riders to learn about traffic rules and manners. The newly developed bicycle simulator system will be used in such places as law enforcement organizations, driving schools and other educational institutions. Honda will begin pre-sale orders of this system in November of this year.
