Development of an Energy-Efficient, Slim light guide Panel by Kuraray
Kuraray made an announcement on launch of an energy saving, thin, edge-light system light guide panel targeted to be used for LED sign boards. The newly developed product is an ELS acrylic light guide panel designed for sign boards that use LEDs as the luminous source. In comparison to currently used direct-illuminating type fluorescent signboards, the new product features a significantly thinner design while offering even light emission over its entire surface and at same time as it reduces the power consumption as its eco-friendly feature resulting in decrease in running cost.
The product can be used in signboards for as large as 1,500mm x 2,300 mm. The company offers two types such signs one is the brighter 9mm type designed uniquely for larger signboards or billboards and a thinner and lighter 6mm type for hanging sign and posters. The newly developed product is consists of an acrylic light guide panel and reflection sheet. The light that has been emitted from the LEDs at the sides of the panel travels in controlled manner through the interior of the light guide panel and then evenly radiated through the diffusion sheet that constitutes the panel’s surface. The attachment of an advertising board to the face of the diffusion sheet transforms the panel into an LED sign board. The company’s sale target for this product is at 1 billion yen in three year.
