Development of New Robot Controller by Epson

Seiko Epson made an announcement on development of new robot controller to be used for Epson industrial robots. This is an upgrade to company’s existing model RC180 controller with capability of driving almost all Epson industrial robot automation systems including robots and peripheral equipments as well as multiple manipulators making RC620 to act as a work cell controller resulting in a greater flexibility in building a various range of system. The company is planning to ship the newly robot controller by end of October of 2009.
The new RC620 drives two SCARA robots (8 axes) and with addition of driver units up to 16 manipulators (20 axes). Furthermore, an Epson linear axis or another supplier’s driver axis can be added to this system as a travel axis with capability of creating pallet definitions of the added axis resulting in capability of running a large automation system with a large envelope with just a small robot. Among some of the feature of this robot controller is its high-speed conveyor tracking, fieldbus master, background tasks for safety purposes, One-push back-up for saving the status of the controller and manipulators in a file in USB memory with a single push and GUI builder for creating custom operator windows without any need for special display device or PLC.
