Development of Low Cost High Capacity Lithium-Copper Battery by AIST
As use of rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries in such products as cellular phones and notebook PC is reaching commodity level, extensive research in developing high capacity batteries for use in electric vehicles is being carried out. But use of conventional lithium-ion batteries for use in automotive application faces some issues such as its resource limited materials that is being used as its positive electrode which is either cobalt or manganese as well as its high cost and complex manufacturing process which requires high-temperature sintering and control of fine structures. Furthermore, the recycling process for such batteries requires difficult step of separating active material from conductive additives, carbon, binder and the collector electrode. Read more
Development of Parallel Robot Cables by OKI Electric Cable
Use of high-flex robot cables on industrial machines such as factory automation is for their capability in supporting repetitive operation. In order to achieve this, usually a number of cables and air tubes are stored in the cable veyor. But this method requires wiring one cable at a time resulting in a poor productivity as well as leading to incorrect wiring with low bending performance. To over comes this issue each cable needed to be adhered but the use of durable and flexible adhesion in order to maintain the original sliding characteristics of the individual cable was difficult. Development of Technology in making Graphene transistors at low temperature on large scale substrates by Fujitsu
As miniaturization technology is approaching its limit plus achieving further higher performance is increasingly becoming more difficult, forcing component manufacturers to seek alternative materials to currently used silicon such as transistor channels, the conduits that pass electricity in LSIs. One such material is Graphene a nano-scale carbon material which is essentially a single layer of the multi-layered graphite. In graphene individual carbon atoms are linked into a hexagonal lattice that is laid out in a flat sheet. Read more
Development of High-Speed Ball Bearing for Next Generation hybrid Vehicles by NSK
Currently there is a growing demand for ultra high speed rotation technology by automobile manufacturers for securing the output power while they continue scaling down the size and weight of drive motors and power generators in order to improve fuel consumption in the next generation hybrid systems. Based on this need, NSK has developed a new ball bearings with a single-axis actuator for ultra-high load applications such as motors and power generators in next-generation hybrid vehicles. Development of Industry’s Lowest Power Flash Microcontroller By Oki Semiconductor
Oki Semiconductor has introduced Industry’s lowest power 8 bit flash microcontroller. The ML61Q400 series of 8-bit microcontrollers are capable of operating from 1.1V, as well as the current consumption of only 0.5uA during clock OFF. The 3-stage pipeline architecture on these microcontroller enables performance that is equivalent to a conventional 16 bit microcontroller. Read more
Development and Volume Production of Postage Stamp Size Fingerprint Authentication module by OKI Semiconductor
Oki Semiconductor made an announcement on development and high volume production of a compact postage stamp sized finger print authentication module. The newly developed MK67Q5250 LSI will allow designers to add the module and interact with it over a simple physical and logical interface with little impact to the existing system where previously required design and procurement of hardware as well as need for development of software around the fingerprint sensor and processing engine plus the development of a new board. Development of Spherical Roller Bearing for Papermaking Machinery by NSK
NSK a leading Japanese manufacturing company with expertise in precision machining technology has made an announcement on development of paper making machinery bearing that prevents micro-seizing (smearing). The new bearings improved smearing resistance has been achieved by coating the bearings’ rolling element with company’s proprietary diamond like carbon which is a film mainly made of carbon. This development will result in a more stable operation of paper making machinery as well as extending the maintenance intervals. Read more
Development of ECO Friendly Flame Retardant Bio-plastic by NEC
In recent years use of reproducible biomass based materials has been gaining popularity. Among this trend is use of bioplastic especially composites with polylactic acid that are being used in daily products such as fibers and utensils as well as such durable products as electronic equipment and automobiles. Having said that, the wide spread success of bioplastics in manufacturing of PCs and other advnced electronic equipment rests on development of advanced bioplastics that are highly flame retardant, durable with a high level of moldability. In response to such market demand NEC made an announcement on development of an ECO friendly flame retardant bioplastic. Read more
