Development and Volume Production of Postage Stamp Size Fingerprint Authentication module by OKI Semiconductor

November 25, 2009 · Filed Under Trendy Products

Oki Semiconductor made an announcement on development and high volume production of a compact postage stamp sized finger print authentication module. The newly developed MK67Q5250 LSI will allow designers to add the module and interact with it over a simple physical and logical interface with little impact to the existing system where previously required design and procurement of hardware as well as need for development of software around the fingerprint sensor and processing engine plus the development of a new board. The new module independently implements functions such as fingreprint data registration, authentication and data management making it simple to add fingerprint authentication system to any new or existing system. The module is based on finger sensor which has been developed by AuthenTec one of the world’s leading fingerprint sensor vendors. The company also offers SDK in addition to the module which addresses the demand for greater number of fingers to be registered in multi-user authentication systems which is done through flash memory, raising then umber to 45 without any needs for external parts allowing the development of an authentication system for a small office using just this LSI and fingerprint sensor. The shipment has already begun and the sample price is at 9,000 yen.
