Development of Spherical Roller Bearing for Papermaking Machinery by NSK
NSK a leading Japanese manufacturing company with expertise in precision machining technology has made an announcement on development of paper making machinery bearing that prevents micro-seizing (smearing). The new bearings improved smearing resistance has been achieved by coating the bearings’ rolling element with company’s proprietary diamond like carbon which is a film mainly made of carbon. This development will result in a more stable operation of paper making machinery as well as extending the maintenance intervals.
The smearing is normally caused by slippage between the raceway surface of the inner and outer rings and the roller surface which may occur in bearings used in light load area inside paper making machinery as well as areas with poor lubrication conditions leading to flaking and fracture that results in production line stoppage. the production line stoppage causes paper quality to vary until stable operation is resumed which results in significant energy loss at production site. The sales forecast for the new product is expected to reach 5 billion yen by fiscal 2012 according to the company.
