Introduction of New LED lighting Devices for Planar Lighting Fixtures by SHARP

December 21, 2009 · Filed Under Green Tech, Trendy Products

As conventional lighting products being replaced by ever popular LED, more and more people are seeking for LED lighting to be capable of depicting illuminated objects such as foods or flowers with colors close to those perceived under natural light. In order to meet such requirements Sharp has made an announcement on development of a series of new high color rendering LED lighting devices in two package styles. These surface mounted devices (SMD) chip LEDs are based on Sharp proprietary double molded structure which has been adopted for use in the LED backlights of AQUOS LCD TVs featuring an improved light extraction efficiency capable of delivering a luminous flux of 38 lumens, industry’s highest in the 0.5-Watt input power class. The Zenigata LED devices feature a compact design of approximately half the surface area of previous modules, providing an easy integration into lighting fixtures and equipment. The high color rendering index values in these new LEDs have been achieved through combing a blue LED die covered with a proprietary mixture of green and red phosphors. The new structure contributes in improvement of the color distribution of green and red colors, which tend to be more subdued, ensuring beautiful reproduction of natural colors such as the color of flowers and fruits, as well as skin colors. The double molded structure in these new LEDs help in reducing the reflected light by improving the light extraction efficiency. In addition to improving the reflectivity of light from the mounting substrate providing a luminous flux of 410 lumens which is a 17% improvement in comparison to previous model made it possible to reduce power consumption to approximately one sixth of a conventional 40W incandescent lamp of the similar brightness. The Zenigata LED devices are ideal for use in sopt lighting and bulb shaped lamps.
