Development of High Performance Voltage Regulator Modules by FDK
FDK a leading Japanese electronic component and battery manufacturer, made an announcement on development of a new series of Voltage Regulator Module (VRM). The newly developed FPVR12CR50130PA dc-dc converter has been designed to meet the power needs of high end microprocessors and other related devices within servers, workstations, supercomputers and storage.
The new VR Series converters are compatible with Intel VRM 11.1 specification. The new FPVR12CR50130PA is capable of delivering up to 130 Amperes of continuous output current with minimal derating and high efficiency. The FPVR12CR50130PA operates from 11.04V dc to 12.60V dc input, providing an 8-bit VID programmable output voltage in the range of 0.50V dc to 1.60V dc. In order to minimize capacitance needs, it features a power train which is made of six interleaved phases, with an effective switching frequency of 2.4MHz. The FPVR12CR50130PA comes in a 3.789 x 0.728 in (96.0 x 18.5mm) card edge package, with a height of 1.177in ( 29.9 mm), making it ideal for application with rack heights down to 1U, while occupying a footprint of only 2.8 square inch (18 square centimeter). The FPVR12CR50130PA offers standard features which include remote ON/OFF, over-current and over-temperature protection, and a light load mode to improve efficiency at low output current. The new converter is available for sampling at price of $45 for quantities of 1,000 pieces.
