KYOCERA to Showcase the Industry’s First LTE Micro Base Station
Kyocera made an announcement on development of industry’s first Long Term Evolution (LTE) micro base station. The company claims the new micro base station is the world’s lightest and smallest and the most efficient LTE base station, where its unique compact and all-in-one design makes it ideal for network operators to complement their existing networks through expanding coverage or adding incremental capacity in high use area. The micro base station weighs less than 12kg with 8 watts of transmit power, a fraction in comparison to typical macro base stations.
The newly developed micro base station by Kyocera is designed to fill the gaps both in coverage and in addressing the overloaded hot spot network, where micro base stations can function together with the existing macro base stations in highly scalable heterogeneous networks. This made possible by incorporating interface-mitigation technology, where Kyocera is a contributor of such technology to the 3GPP. In addition to micro base station, Kyocera will unveil its newly developed macro base station weighting only 18kg and using only 211 watts or less of transmit power which is significantly less than the currently featured LTE base station. Kyocera will demonstrate both micor and macro LTE base station during Mobile World Congress (MWC) between Feb. 15 to 18 in Barcelona, Spain.
