Development of World’s First Sheet Type All-Solid Polymer Lithium Secondary Battery using Printing Processes
Mie Prefecture Industrial Support Center (MIESC) which has been set up for the promotion of education and science, has made an announcement on development of next generation all –solid polymer lithium secondary batteries which has been manufactured through printing processes.
The newly developed flexible, sheet type battery which is the world’s first in its class, has been developed based on electrode material and electrode interface control technology plus a new polymer electrolyte, without any needs for separator. The MIESC has achieved all the safety and reliability measure in regard to manufacturing polymer electrolyte lithium ion secondary battery. The new battery in addition of being safe, thin and flexible with large surface area can operate below room temperature. The new battery is an A6 size cell (External dimension), with a thickness of 450um (external dimension), and an initial charge and discharge efficiency of 99%. The new battery has initial capacity of 45mAh, with operating voltage of 1.8 V at 50% of discharge. Furthermore, it has a discharge rate between 0.02C to 1.0C with an operating temperature of 0 to 25 degrees Celsius. The newly developed battery has achieved more than 100 charge and discharge cycle times while it is still going through further evaluation.
