Development of Protection ICs for Li-ion Secondary Battery by MITSUMI
Mitsumi made an announcement on development of protection ICs for 2 to 5 serial cells of lithium ion secondary battery. The development of new ICs was a response to simplifying the protection circuit which has previously required a combination of cells and tuning of the circuit, resulting in reducing the number of parts and the overall cost.
The new ICs are capable of protecting any one of 2 to 5 serial cells of the battery by selecting the proper set of terminals, as well as being able to protect the battery from over charging, over discharging and over current. Furthermore, the new ICs is capable of varying the detection delay time with capacitor capacity, resulting in simplifying the adjustment of a circuit. The new ICs MM3474, provide an over charge and discharge detection voltage range of 3.5 to 4.5V and 2.0 to 3.0V respectively.
