TDK Unveils New Power Capacitors for Hybrid or Electric Drives of Motor Vehicles
TDK-EPC, a group company of TDK Corporation has unveiled a new Power Capacitor Chip (PCC), for an ideal DC-link circuit solution of the electric drives of motor vehicles. The PCCs are characterized by a volume fill factor of nearly 1 and fit perfectly onto the IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) modules HybridPACK1 (up to 20 kW) and HybridPACK2 (up to 90 kW) both developed by Infineon Technologies. The rated voltage of the PCCs is 450 V DC, with capacitance of 300 and 500 uF. Furthermore, PCCs feature a low ESL of no more than 15 and 25 nH, respectively. Their ESR is a maximum of 1 m ohm. The normal operating temperature of PCCs is between -40 to 110 degrees Celsius but they can withstand for a brief period at a temperature of 125 degrees Celsius. The PCCs average operating life span is 15,000 hours. Additionally, the PCCs are self healing, so at the event of breakdowns of the film during an overload, there is no short circuit or destruction of the capacitor.

[...] TDK-EPC has successfully developed SMD Series PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) thermistors for limit temperature measurement. The new thermistors come in case sizes of 0805, 0603 and 0402. They are designed for over temperature protection in industrial equipment as well as consumer and automotive electronics and IT applications. They have response temperatures from 70 to 145 degrees Celsius in steps of 10K depending on the series. The SMD Series PTS have AEC Q-200 qualification, which is a test criterion by the Automotive Electronics Council that applies to passive components. The new series is suitable for reflow and wave soldering up to 280 degrees Celsius. Ideal applications for these temperature limit sensors are power supplies such as AC/DC and DC/DC converters, battery chargers and packs or lamp ballasts. The SMD PTC thermistors can be used in fan controllers of notebooks for avoiding critical temperatures. In automotive electronics application they are suitable for such devices as the temperature monitoring of LED-based lighting systems. The rated resistance of these components is 470 ohm, with a maximum permissible operating voltage of 32 V DC. UL approval for these components is pending. source Share and Enjoy: [...]
[...] TDK-EPC has successfully developed the world’s first thin-film common mode filter featuring both high-speed differential transmission common mode noise suppression and ESD (Electrostatic discharge) protection all in a single component. The new filter has a form factor of (1.25 x 1.00 x 0.60 mm3), using the proprietary thin-film circuit formation and materials technologies. Successful addition of ESD suppressor function to the already existing EMI (Electromagnetic interface)function in this newly developed filter has helped to eliminate any needs for additional varistor for ESD suppression, resulting in reduced number of components and mounting area, as well as further miniaturization of mobile devices. The new filter comes with a cutoff frequency of 5.0 GHz, the common mode impedence of 90 ? ±25 ?, rated current of 100 mA and ESD immunity that complies with the IEC61000-4-2 international surge standards. Furthermore, the new filter’s low parasitic capacitance has almost no effect on the impedance characteristic (TDR measurement), making the new filter ideal for use in high-speed, high-volume interfaces such as HDMI, USB 3.0, as well as SATA in consumer electronics applications. The mass production of this filter has already begun this month. source Share and Enjoy: [...]
