Development of New Application Platform for Mobile Phones offering compatibility with both the Symbian and Linux OS
The announcement of developing a new application platform for mobile phones by some Japanese major players in area of consumer electronics and equipment does not comes as a surprise, where the cross development is becoming a major key in reducing development time and cost.
The new joint development by NTT DOCOMO, Renesas Electronics, Fujitsu, NEC, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Sharp, will help the six companies to avoid basic application processing functions development on their own, and reduce the development cost and time, where the focus can be shifted to developing manufacturer specific handset features. The platform will be offered to mobile phone manufacturers around world, planning compatibility with open operating systems such as Andriod by Google.
