Development of New Technology Designed to Prevent Vehicles Potential Rear End Collision by NISSAN

July 28, 2010 · Filed Under Trendy Products

This may come as a welcoming news for major automobile insurers, helping to reduce number of fender benders and back lashes type of claims as a start. Well, according to Nissan announcement, the company has developed a new technology which Nissan calls it “Forward Collision Avoidance Assist”, a technology that has been developed to address both potential rear end collision one being in helping the driver to avoid hitting the vehicle immediately ahead of it in the lane as well as helping to reduce the potential risk of sudden braking, causing the vehicle to be rear-ended by the vehicle approaching form behind. The new system is capable of avoiding possible collision at forward speeds of approximately 60kph, the highest among the forward collision avoidance systems.
The system uses a highly sensitive radar sensor for monitoring the distance from the front vehicle and its relative speed. In an event that deceleration is required, the system alerts the driver using both a screen display as well as sound, and afterward the system will generate a force that pushes the accelerator pedal up while smoothly applies partial breaking to assists the driver in slowing down the vehicle. In an event where, a possibility of a collision is high, the system will automatically apply harder braking and tighten the driver’s seat belt. The new development is part of Nissan
“Safety Shield” concept.

  2. Development of Two New Industry’s First Steering and Braking Technologies by NISSAN Motor | Japan Technology Information on August 2nd, 2010 7:03 am

[...] Nissan Motor has set a record by announcing two new world’s first steering and braking technologies. One is “Electro hydraulic Power Steering system” and “Electric Driven Intelligent Brake” systems. The Electro hydraulic Power Steering system is smaller than traditional power steering systems in which the motor is activated only when the driver is steering. It offers both the advantages of steering the natural and smooth steering of hydraulic power steering, while offering an improved fuel efficiency of electric power steering. The Electric Driven Intelligent Brake is a system that utilizes the vehicle’s electric motor for directly operating the brake cylinders, as a result when the driver steps on the brake pedal; the necessary brake force is maintained while hydraulic pressure of the friction brake is controlled in order to help maximizing the energy regeneration of hybrid motor. Due to this direct control of brake cylinders by motor, the new system can be applied to future hybrid vehicles. The new system will be mounted on the Infiniti M Hybrid, a luxury hybrid model planned to be launched in 2011 both in US and Europe. [...]
