Introduction of 8-pin SIM Card Connector for Mobile Phones and Vehicle Navigation System
Alps Electric has introduced a new SCGC1B03 Series, an 8-pin SIM card connector targeted to be used in mobile phones as well as car navigation systems. The new SIM card connector is industry’s first connector capable of automatically locking the card in when inserted to prevent accidental ejection. For ejecting the card the user simply pushes the card a second time. Furthermore, the new series prevents improper card insertion as the card can not be fully inserted if it’s oriented incorrectly. Featuring a compact size of 18.44mm (W) x 29.0mm (L) x 1.55mm (H), the new connector is the answer to challenge of limited space inside of the navigation system.
The new SIM connector is compatible with B-CAS cards for digital terrestrial broadcasting authentication. Sample production has already begun, with mass production to follow on October of 2010. The sample price is set at 500 JPY (tax included). The monthly production is at 500,000 units, which is planned by April 2012.
