Industry Smallest Near Field Communication Compatible Module for Mobile Terminals by DNP
Dai Nippon Printing has successfully developed the world’s smallest Near Field Communications (NFC) compatible module for mobile terminals. The newly developed NFC is compatible with FeliCa®, Type A and B contactless smart cards operating under different communications standards. The new NFC uses a single reader-writer capable of communicating between mentioned multiple cards, making it ideal for use in office based notebook PCs and printers as well as in mobile devices.
The new NFC’s thin, multilayer structured printed wiring board is as result of using the buried bump interconnection technology, plus DNP’s unique printed wiring board (PWB) manufacturing technology for printing the conical bumps, conductive prongs, interlayer connections, and embedded parts including the IC chips, condensers and resistors, resulting in a product with an 8mm angle and a profile of 1.6 mm. The surface area of the new module is 50% less than that of currently available reader-writer modules. The DNP has started the supply of samples for evaluation from beginning of this month. The product sales launches are planned to start on early 2011.
