Launch of a New Type of Integrated Digital/Physical Hybrid Bookstore by 2Dfacto
2Dfacto a new joint venture by Dai Nippon Printing (DNP), DOCOMO and CHI Group, which came into existence on December of 2010, will open its first online bookstore selling electronic books to users of smartphones and e-book readers offered by DOCOMO. The service will be based on DNP’s current online e-book retail service. The e-bookstore initially will offer around 20,000 titles in literature and Japanese manga comic books with a plan to expand that to 100,000 titles by spring, with gradual addition of magazines, newspapers and rich media embedded with music and video content in the near future. At the point of its launch the new service will be accessible to the users of Xperia, GALAXY S, REGZA Phone, LYNX 3D, Optimus chat, GALAXY Tab and SH-07C e-book reader to be launched on January 21st.
2Dfacto will expand the scope of the “honto” service in 2011 and continue connecting to DNP existing “bk1” online bookstore with around one million titles of printed books on hand as well as physical bookstore chains Maruzen, JUNKUDO and Bunkyodo. Under this service plan the website will offer recommendations based on purchase history from all three types of bookstores, network wide loyalty points as well as e-bookshelf for viewing network wide purchases. Among other planned feature is the ability for users to read the same e-book on multiple devices and sharing bookmarks and marked information among multiple devices.
