Release of Header-type microSD Card Connector featuring Industry’s Smallest Mountig Space by SMK
SMK has recently developed a header-type connector for microSD cards offering industry’s smallest mounting space. The device supports variable height ranging from 2.45mm to 6.00mm, offering the equipment manufacturers freedom in design of their products. It comes in width of 11.45mm and length of 5.3mm, resulting in the smallest mounting space in the industry. The new connector comes with a unique card detection software as well as shield cover structure preventing electrostatic discharge, resulting in enhanced shielding and improved mounting strength.
The application of the new connector ranges from mobile phones, smartphones, digital cameras as well as other types of mobile devices. The company is forecasting a monthly production of 1,000,000 units.

[...] SMK has developed a back flip lock type FPC, using a 0.5mm pitch, right angle, ZIF structure and a back flip system for opening and closing the cover. The development of the new FPC connector was in response to overcome the difficulty of securing adequate tensile strength in the vertical direction of FPC, a requirement in improving freedom of design and ensuring contact reliability in AV and automotive equipment. The new BF-51 FPC connector resolve this issue by using a structure that directly relieves the load from the cover with its back flip lock. The new FPC has an upper and lower point of contact ensuring secured contact reliability as well as greater wiring freedom within the FPC devices.
