Development of High-Intensity and High-Definition IPS LCD for Smartphones by Hitachi Display
Popularity of Smatphones undoubtedly is one of the driving forces in High-Tec Industry success in recent years, this along with increasing number of high-definition contents such as HD video and photo-quality books, creating a greater demand for viewing high resolution images on smartphones’ displays. Based on this need, Hitachi Display has developed a 4.5-inch, high-definition (720 x 1280), High-Intensity IPS LCD module for Smartphones.
The new LCD module has a high resolution of 329 ppi (pixel per inch) around the limits of the human eye. In addition to this capability, the new LCD module comes with the newly developed technology for high aperture ratio pixels as well as improved backlight efficiency in LCD displays in preventing reduced brightness that occurs during design of high-definition displays with superior color reproduction.
The new module has a aspect ration of 16:9, display area of 55.51mmx98.69mm, brightness of 500cd/m2 and contrast ratio of 1100:1.
The new LCD module will be on display during SID 2011 in Los Angeles, California from May 15th to 20th.
