Fabrication of NAND Flash Memories with 19nm Process Technology by Toshiba

Toshiba made an announcement on fabrication of NAND flash memories at 19nm level processing technology, marking the finest level that has been achieved so far. The newly developed technology has already been applied to 2-bit-per-cell 64-gigabit chips, resulting in industry’s smallest chip with highest density of 8 GB. In addition to this Toshiba has added yet another product using the 19nm processing technology, a 3-bit-per-cell.
The new technology will allow Toshiba to assemble sixteen 64Gbit NAND flash memory chips into one package as well as delivering 128GB devices for application including smartphones and tablet PCs. The new 19nm process products come with DDR2.0 for enhance data transfer rate. The sample quantity of 2-bit-per-cell 64 gigabit product will be available by the end of April with mass production to follow from July to September of 2011.
