Development of World’s First Crystal Unit with Thermistor by KYOCERA

June 8, 2011 · Filed Under Trendy Products

Kyocera has announced the development of industry’s first crystal unit with temperature sensor allowing highly accurate temperature compensation. The new CT2520DB is an AT cut type crystal unit bearing the dimension of 2.5 x 2.0 mm. Crystal devices are the required components in mobile handsets such as cellular phones for producing reference signal for stable communication, where temperature compensation in these devices plays an important role in minimizing frequency change under a wide operating temperature range.
Now, in order to compensate frequency changes that are caused by thermal transients, the thermistor is placed as close as possible to the crystal unit. Further to this, delay of temperature changes between the crystal unit and thermistor is minimized by placing these components on each side of a ceramic package. The new crystal unit is compatible with Qualcomm chip sets.
