Development of Industry’s Lowest Power consumption Remote Radio Head for LTE Base Station
Sumitomo Electric has unveiled ground breaking super low power consumption remote radio head (RRH) for use in Long Term Evolution (LTE) base station. The new RRH has achieved a wireless output power of 80 W at 2.1 GHz at a low power consumption of less than 270 W, industry’s highest class efficiency.
The new RRH features a higher power amplifying efficiency using Envelop Tracking technique, for controlling supply voltage to the amplifier in response to the signal amplitude fluctuation.Reduced power consumption has been achieved through use of both a high efficiency amplifier and the original pre-distorter. In addition to this, the new RRH employs a multi-carrier system for supporting multiple users in response to increase in number of subscribers. Furthermore, the new RRH comes with optical interface.
