Development of Aspherical Glass Lens with High Optical Coupling for Optical Communication

Alps Electric has announced the development of series of aspherical glass lens for optical communication featuring a high optical coupling efficiency and it is compatible with wide-angle laser diodes. The transceiver modules employing glass lenses are used for optical communication in such application as submarine cables and base stations.
The aspherical lenses are used for transmitting light signals to optical fiber with low loss. The recent application of aspherical lenses has been in palm-size projectors. The new FLGS3 Series are industry’s smallest at size of just 1 x 1 mm. The new FLGS3 Series are lead-free glass in compliance with RoHS and REACH regulations.
