Release of New Image Recognition System-on-Chip with Advance Driver Assistance System Capabilities by Renesas
Renesas Electronics and Renesas Mobile have announced the of a new image recognition system-on-chip (SoC). The new SH7766 SoC features all the functionality required to implement camera based surround view system as well as display of crucial information such as lanes, signs and marking, pedestrians, vehicles, etc. The new functions on this new SoC is ideal for such applications as clear and easily distinguishable top-view virtual camera visualization using different viewpoints to display the changing surroundings all in real-time. In addition to this the new SH7766 SoC features monitoring functionalities such as advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
Among some of the key features on this newly released SoC are; viewpoint conversion engine and dynamic range control for improved view functions, IMP-X2 next-generation image recognition engine, six video input channels, including four channels with integrated NTSC ADCs, for reduced system cost. The samples of the new SH7766 SoC will be available from November 2011 at US $50 per unit. Mass production of the new SH7766 SoC is scheduled for September of 2013.

[...] Renesas Electronics and Renesas Mobile Corporation made a joint announcement on development of a new automotive system-on-chip (SoCs), the R-Car H1, capable of delivering up to 11,650 Dhrystone MIPS (DMIPS), making them ideal for high-end car navigation market. The new R-Car H1 application domain is powered by ARM® Cortex™A-9 quad-core configuration running at 1 GHz, and the real-time domain is powered by a dedicated multimedia engine (MME) based on company’s SH4A core. The new architecture would allow manufacturer of such system to implement features such as quick-boot, backup camera support as well as media processing using the MME. The application domain cores of R-Car H1 can be used to run advanced operating system such as Linux, Windows® Automotive Embedded or QNX®. The new R-Car H1 comes with Imagination Technologies’ SGX-543-MP2 graphics processing unit (GPU), capable of delivering up to 40 gigaflops per second. In addition to this, the new R-Car H1 is powered with Renesas’ IMP-X3, a real-time image processing unit allowing the developers with emerging trend in augmented reality. The new R-Car H1 supports up to four independent input camera channels for easy implementation of 360 degrees camera views and sign recognition to name a few. Its video and audio processing is supported by hardware accelerators supporting up to HD 1080p at 60fps on advance infotainment systems. The R-Car H1 integrated peripheral include Ethernet, MOST-150, PATA and SATA interfaces as well as PCIe for system expansion. Share and Enjoy: [...]
