Teijin begins Commercial Production of World’s Strongest Tap for Bulletproof Plates
Teijin Aramid has announced the commercial production of industry’s strongest tap which can be used for such applications as bulletproof plates, cut-resistance gloves, ropes and nets as well as high performance synthetic plates. The newly developed “Endumax®” is a new high-performance polyethylene (HP-PE) tape made of UHMWPE which according to company 11 times stronger than steel of the same weight and its stiffness is comparable to carbon fiber. The new “Endumax®” is addition of being strong has a chemical resistance feature.
It is light weight and not brittle plus it can be used in thin and flat structures. Contrary to most type of polyethylene fibers commercially available on the market, “Endumax®” does not use any solvent to be produced, resulting in lower environmental impact due to less energy consumption in manufacturing it. Teijin is planning a yearly production capacity of 1,000 tones before the end of 2012. The new “Endumax®” will be produced in Teijin’s plant in Emmen Netherlands.
