Development of Industry’s Thinnest CMOS Camera Module by SHARP
Sharp has announced the development of world’s thinnest CMOS camera module equipped with optical image stabilization for smartphones. The newly developed RJ63YC100 module is a 12.1-Megapixel; 1/3.2-inch CMOS camera module has been designed in response to market demand for super compact mobile devices such as smartphones. The new module will bring to mobile devices superior image quality with camera functionality which includes connectivity to AV equipment and PCs. The incorporated optical image stabilizer in this camera module uses a lens-shift system for controlling the lens inside the module. The module supports full HD (1080p) video capture with reduced blurring with an ability to view the captured video content on a large screen LCD TV. The thin profile module measure only 5.47 mm in height has been achieved using Sharp’s proprietary high-density packaging technology.
The module optical function in addition to optical image stabilization includes auto-focus function. The output format is RAW (4-lane MIPI serial output interface, the lens is F2.5; with horizontal viewing angle of 60 degrees. The sample shipment has started as of today (Dec. 2nd) at price of 12,000 JPY. The volume shipment is expected to begin on January 10th, 2012 with expected monthly production of 100,000 units.
