Development of a New Series of High Efficiency DC-DC Converters LSI by Panasonic
Panasonic has announced the development of a new series of DC-DC converters LSI with a voltage step-down type hysteretic control system featuring high efficiency and high-speed response. Capable of supporting a wide-range of output voltages, making them ideal for such applications as power supplies of personal computers and servers. The new series offers a power conversion efficiency of 95% thanks to its built-in effect transistors with low-loss trench-gate MOS structure, which by the way will contribute to equipment’s energy conversion and low heat generation. In addition to this the new LSI series can respond to rapid changes in the output load at high speed while significantly suppressing variation in the output voltage.
These features ensure a large margin in the operating voltage range of the FPGA, memories, digital signal processors as well as other components installed in PCs and servers. Furthermore, the number of components to be mounted on a power supply board can be reduced. The new LSI comes in compact 4 mm /6 mm square, which can reduce the mounting area by approximately 25%. Panasonic is planning to start the sample shipment in January of 2012 at a unit price of 100 to 200 JPY.
