Development of World’s First Toroidal System for Front-Wheel Drive Vehicles by NSK

NSK recently showcased its latest marvel of technology during 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011, the world’s first toroidal variator module for front-wheel drive (FWD) automobiles. The new system is result of changes in internal specifications which uses more compact components, which resulted in a 20% shorter device in comparison to conventional products, allowing for installation in FWD vehicles.
It’s 30% lighter weight than conventional products will allow it to be utilized in a wide range of vehicles. It offers a improved transmission efficiency due to 50% reduction in friction. In addition to this, an increase in gear ratio has made possible a lower engine speed at a wider range of speeds.
