Development of Compact AT-Cut Crystal Unit for Wireless Communication by KYOCERA
Kyocera has announced the release of compact size CX1612SB AT-Cut Crystal unit of wireless communication which was manufactured by way of photolithographic process. The new product features a crystal impedance (CI) value of 60 ohm which is a 25% improvement over conventional products. The main application of the new product will be reference signal oscillation for wireless communication handset.
The AT-cut crystal unit is a component that oscillates the reference signal for ICs and it is widely used in multitude of electronic devices like mobile phones and smartphones as well as healthcare related products.
Over the years, there has been an increasing demand for higher precision in oscillator unit due to increasing functionality in such mobile devices. However, there are limitations on the processing accuracy in the conventional machine lapping process which usually results in variation in characteristics as well as design prototypes which normally take about two to three month to complete. The new technology developed by Kyocera take into account numerous minute patterns to be performed on one crystal substrate (wafer).
