World’s First Technology for Detecting Phone Phishing Scams
Every year millions of people fall victim to what is know as remittance-soliciting phone phishing scams with common target being the elderly. Here in Japan many elderly have been rubbed from their saving by such scammers and sophisticated organized crime making the elderly believe that their request and plea is of legitimate nature making this new technology jointly developed by Fujitsu and Nagoya University as a sigh of relief to many helping individuals to recognize the scam calls. This world’s first technology of its kind has capability of analyzing telephone conversation and automatically detecting the “over trust” factor by detecting characteristic keywords. The over trust situation basically occurs when a person is under physical stress and individual receives call from individual who conveys distressing information.
The new technology can detect changes in voice pitch and level through use of speech recognition systems. The new technology is currently going through test and so far has been found that, it is capable of detecting over trust situation with accuracy of 90%.
