Development of World’s First Hardware Engine Capable of Directly Streaming Video Content from SSD to IP Network
Toshiba has announced that it has successfully developed the world’s first hardware engine, the NPEngine™ capable of direct streaming of video contents from SSD to IP networks, without any needs to access the server’s CPU or any memory resources. NPEngine is capable of simultaneous delivery of up to 64,000 high quality video streams at a rate of 40Gigabit per second which well surpasses the performance of a typical server, while reducing power consumption by 77% and space requirements by 70%.
Furthermore, the NPEngine is compliant with the newest HTTP adaptive bit rate streaming without requiring any modifications to the existing HTTP streaming applications. Toshiba will exhibit the new technology during the NAB show in Las Vegas from April 16 to 19. Server products running the new engine will be available this year.
