Development of Triple Cycle Power Generation System by Mitsubishi Heavy Industry

June 2, 2012 · Filed Under Green Tech

Mitsubishi Heavy Industry has announced the development of a basic technology for a triple combined cycle power generation system. The new technology will combined the solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and a gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power generation system. In the new system the SOFC power generation system is placed before the GTCC system.
The new fuel cell combined cycle (FCCC) system will be able to generate power through three stages, namely the fuel cell, gas turbine, and steam turbine, expected to improve efficiency in natural gas power generation system. The FCCC system is expected to achieve world’s highest power generation efficiency exceeding 70% Lower Heating Value (LHV) for several hundred Mega Watt class power generation, while will achieve over 60% (LHV) efficiency for several tens of Mega Watt class power generation system. This will result in 10 to 20% improvements in power generation efficiency over existing natural gas-fired power generation systems.
