Development of Super Compact Absolute Pressure Sensor by OMRON

July 20, 2012 · Filed Under Trendy Products

OMRON has recently announced the development of a super compact absolute pressure sensor capable of accurately detecting 50cm altitude variations through highly precise sensing of air pressure fluctuation. The new sensor has been developed based on MEMS technology. The new sensor is the result of integration of CMOS circuits and MEMS sensors measuring only 3.8 x 3.8 x 0.92 mm, making it ideal for installation in small mobile devices and other compact equipment.
The sensor offers a power efficient operation make it suitable for use in battery operated applications such as smartphones and activity monitors. Omron is planning to release the integrated CMOS-MEMS wafers to make it possible to install other sensors on the same board as the absolute pressure sensor. The sensor offers a wide detection range of 300hPa to 1100hPa. IT has low current consumption of 0.5uA to 9.5uA.
