Development of Vehicle-to-Home Power Supply Systems for EV by DENSO

July 24, 2012 · Filed Under Green Tech

DESNO has just announced the joint development of a Vehicle-to-home (V2H) power supply system for electric vehicles (EV) with Toyota Motor. The system is designed to work with Denso’s home energy management system and uses alternating current. The system is currently being tested using plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHV) to ensure its efficient use of energy. The V2H system is designed to quickly charge an EV with direct current from the HEMS storage battery, and it can supply the generated electricity in the EV back to the household.
Furthermore, the system is capable of efficiently distributing electricity which includes the generated power by the residential photovoltaic systems (solar panels) to the EV and to the home in coordination with HEMS. The system offers a quick recharging function by use of HEMS storage battery, where within just 15 minutes of charging the EV can travel up to about 20 km. In addition to this the new system can estimate the daily EV travel distance and household power consumption to ideally manage the charging and discharging of the electricity of EV and HEMS battery unit.
