Development of High Strength Radiation Shielding Fabric by Teijin
Teijin has recently announced the development of aramid fiber fabric that protects users against X-ray and gamma-ray radiation. The fabric can be used for manufacturing of protective clothing and sheet materials for areas with high levels of radiation, including the medical field, reconstruction activities in disaster-hit northeastern Japan and radiation testing.
The new fabric has been manufacture through blending of radiation shielding tungsten particles with Technora high strength para-aramid fiber both produced by Teijin. Production of filament yarn by blending a high-density metal with fiber has been achieved through Teijin proprietary polymer and spinning technologies.
