Development of Innovative Refrigerant for Air-Conditioning Systems helping to Reduce Global warming Potential

March 27, 2014 · Filed Under Clean Tech, Green Tech

Asahi Glass Company (AGC) has announced the development of a new refrigerant for air-conditioning systems offering a low environmental impact, about one-sixth that of conventional products. The newly developed AMOLEA refrigerant can reduce the global warming potential (GWP) by about one-sixth that of conventional products while delivering same performance of conventional hydro fluorocarbon (HFC) -410A.
Regulation for restricting the use of HFC has already been imposed in Europe and its use is to be restricted in Japan by beginning of 2015, while US is considering limiting its use. In light of this manufacturers of such equipment are seeking alternative refrigerants such as HFC-32. AMOLEA’s main ingredient is hydrofluoroolefin (HFO)-1123, which has an extremely low GWP.
