World’s Highest Energy Conversion Efficiency has been achieved on HIT Solar Cells
Panasonic has announced record breaking 25.6% conversion efficiency for its HIT solar cells. It is a small increase from company’s February 2013 announcement of 24.7% but every little bit counts. The new record has been made possible through further development of Panasonic’s proprietary heterojunction technology and by adopting a back-contact solar cell structure, with the electrodes on the back of the solar cell allowing efficient utilization of sunlight.
Other contributing factors in achieving this conversion efficiency is reduction in recombination loss, reduction in optical loss by placing the electrodes on the reverse side as back contacts allow the light to reach the substrate more efficiently and minimizing resistance loss.
