Toshiba has recently released a many-core system-on-a-chip (SoC) for embedded applications in area of automotive and digital consumer products. The new prototype integrates 64 cores, which is 8 times more than its multi-core predecessor while operating 14 times faster. This has been achieved by using tree-based network-on-chip (NoC) architecture as well as highly efficient embedded processor cores. The new SoC features 1.5 tera operations per second at 333MHz and integrates image recognition hardware accelerators. Read more
